I had a thought on the patchogue... when raced doublehanded.. we should give equal points to both members of the crew

A new graded event has been added:

FLYING FIZZ - Hosted by TYC - Saturday at 1 AM - Weekly event

(first time event: this saturday 15th)

A change occured in an existing event:

Previously: FIZZ/Shelly - TYC - Monday 6AM Bi monthly
Becomes: SHELLY - Hosted by TYC - Monday at 6 AM - Weekly event

I have placed a series of signs at Tradewinds Yacht Club that can be copied by others as well. They're not exactly pretty yet, but they're modifiable and I'm sure one or two sailors will be able to recreate them into a picture that fits in a portrait frame for their homes.

Slight enhancements in the rankings tables on dotCOM:

Upon requests, I added a column on the right: "Average", with value = "Points" / "Events" (max 12). This may give an indication for skippers having raced less than 12 events. Of course, rankings are unchanged and still calculated with points.

Starting June 1st:

as defined in "SLSA Rankings - Calculation", the "Quality factor" will be in use for FIZZ Rankings (and only Fizz).

"The Quality Factor (Q) is calculated according to the number of top ranked competitors attending the regatta. It can only be calculated when the results have been received. Q is determined by the formula Q = 1 + n/20 where n is the number of competitors who feature in the top 10 of the last published ranking list prior to the event. The limits of Q are set between 1.0 and 1.5. The Quality Factor applies only when at least 5 competitors have raced 12 graded events (last published ranking list prior to the event)."

Only Fizz ranking matches the underlined prerequisite so far. Some other classes will certainly follow July 1st.

As Q factor is in use for a very first time, tweaking may happen if we detect some troubles with it. June will be a trial period for Fizz fanatics with this parameter. So, starting June 1st, and as indicated in the "SLSA Rankings – Current Rankings" page under the Fizz section, you may get more points when racing WITH sailors in "Top 10 for Quality factor in June", namely: Miwha Masala, Dahral Huet, Liv Leigh, joro Aya, Maiko Taurog, Silber Sands, sash Hudson, Bea Woodget, Krysha Lundquist and nobuko Criss. According to the inworld NYC group notice "NYC Sked change - Tomorrow, Monday June 7, 4pm SL, will now be a Tako race (and a graded one to boot).
And the Patchogue race will be moved to Wed 4pm SL (not graded this week). Sorry about this last minute change but worse things happen at sea. (lol)"

the SLSA Graded Events Calendar has been updated with:

- Mondays 4PM: weekly graded TAKO race, starting Monday 7th. (Previously Wednesday 4PM)
- Wednesdays 4PM: weekly PATCHOGUE race, being bi-monthly graded (every 2 weeks), starting wednesday 16th (Previously Monday 4PM)

Upon request, we are thinking to start with a new ranking in July:

DOUBLE HANDED FLYING FIZZ

Double handed Fizz Races are a lot of fun, allow true task sharing between helmsman and crew, a good synchronization, and also permit to enjoy the Fizz with strong winds. A true challenge.

The calculation scheme will remain unchanged, but based on teams (and not skipper or crew):

helmsman/crew ---> n points

It means that "Groucho/Chipo" team will get a different ranking than "Groucho/Harpo", or "Chipo/Harpo". A skipper, and/or crew member may then be ranked in several teams. The points are not cumulative for people sailing in different teams. Thus, ranking could look like:

1st - Groucho/Chipo
2nd - Chipo/Harpo
3rd - Groucho/Harpo
4th - Minnie/Groucho
...

In order I may add such events in the SLSA Rankings Calendar, RD interested in hosting Double-Handed Fizz Races, please IM me or send me a notecard with the following informations: "YC - RD - Starting Date (first event) - Time - Frequency (weekly/bi-monthly...)". From time to time, slots used for single-handed Fizz could be announced as "double-handed", or you may ad new events.
I am also interested in your thoughts regarding the use of the "control" command.

Wooot, great to hear. Concerning to my Saturday-noon races I think about starting with this kind of races after the FIFA World Cup is over, because lots of finals are running at the same time.
But I can offer to help in organizing some "taster courses" for people who would like to join in. Referring the "control crew" settings I would prefer that the crew is handling jib and genaker, while the helm is steering and has control about the mainsail.
